By Andrew Reed

Twin Falls, Idaho (KMVT-TV) Interstate-84 is one of the most traveled highways in Idaho. It can also be a very dangerous interstate.

Every year thousands of vehicles travel between the Jerome and Twin Falls county line. Trooper Steve Otto from Idaho State Police said, "A hot populated areas such as Jerome and Twin Falls is going to be our most condense area that's probably going to be where the most dangerous areas."

Over the past five years there have been many fatal and serious accidents. Nathan Jerke from Idaho Transportation said, "What we’re seeing when you look at the data, the major causes are mainly driven by two main factors. Distracted driving and aggressive driving. Both those tendencies are based on driver decisions"

In 2008 there were 13 fatal accidents and 15 serious accidents. In 2009 10 fatal, and 28 serious, and in 2010 seven fatal and 22 serious accidents. All between the city of Glenns Ferry and the Utah border. The summer months see the most traffic on the interstate.

Trooper Steve Otto from Idaho State Police said, "All you have to do is slow down and to the right thing, it’s not really that hard. Put your cell phones down, pay attention, increase the following distance from the vehicle in front of you, and maybe leave a little bit early, give yourself a little extra time."

To decrease your risk of getting in a serious wreck or even losing your life, ISP recommends the following. If you have road rage, let it go.
Going over the speed limit of 75 miles per hour, won't get you anywhere faster. Your Facebook notification on your phone or text message can wait until you get to your destination, and never drink and drive.

Trooper Steve Otto from Idaho State Police said, "If you exceed the speed limit just by five miles an hour over the speed limit then you're putting yourself along with others in danger."
