UPDATE: Minidoka Complex Fire (KMVT-TV) The Hot Well Fire is now 100% contained and will be monitored by aircraft. Final acreage is 3,056.

The Cave Canyon Fire has had no perimeter growth and crews continue to hold and improve control lines. The acreage remains at 88,909 acres, but containment is 70%. Crews will enhance the fire lines on the west side of the fire and improve and hold control lines on all other sections.

The Deer Hollow Fire has scorched 5,440 acres and the current containment is 55%. Crews will continue to wrestle with heat in heavy timber and steep terrain on the east side of the fire.

Murtaugh Lake and Goose Creek Reservoir will re-open today (Wednesday).

Rock Creek Canyon is still closed at the forest boundary.

ORIGINAL STORY: A Burned Area Emergency Response (BAER) team arrived to make assessments and give recommendations for rehabilitation treatments for the fire area.

Some fires create situations that require special efforts to prevent further damage after the fire.

Local resource specialists have been monitoring fire effects on the land since the fire began. The interagency BAER team comes in after the fire is fully contained and control objectives are met.

Crews have been restoring fire line back to a more natural condition. Without rehabilitation efforts, the loss of vegetation exposes soil to erosion, increasing runoff and causing potential flash flooding. Sediments may move downstream and damage houses or fill reservoirs, putting community water supplies and endangered species at risk.

The Minidoka Complex is 55% contained and nearly 97,616 acres and encompasses four fires, Cave Canyon, Deer Hollow, Hot Well and Eightmile.

Cave Canyon: 88,909 acres - 60% Contained. Firefighters have managed to hold the existing perimeter around the north, east and south areas of the Cave Canyon fire. Firefighters have begun mopping up 200 feet in, around the entire boundary of the fire.

Deer Hollow: 5,440 acres – 35% contained. Crews continue to hold and improve the perimeter of the fire. Heavy fuels are burning close to the perimeter on the east side, presenting a challenge for firefighters to extinguish. Additional crews from the Cave Canyon Fire will be arriving today to offer assistance.

Hot Well: 3,056 acres – 80% contained. Crews and engines will reinforce containment lines and continue mopping up any hot spots.

Eightmile: 211 acres – 100% contained. The fire is being monitoring and rehabilitation efforts are under way.

Rock Creek Road is closed at the Forest Boundary. Area closures are also in effect for the fires on the Cassia and Black Pine divisions of the Sawtooth National Forest.
