Jay Michaels joined KMVT-TV News as a General Assignment Reporter in November 2000.

Before making the leap to television news, Jay worked in Twin Falls radio for 18 years, beginning as a Weekend Announcer at KTFI-AM in March 1982, then moving to KLIX-AM/KMTW-FM, followed by KEEP-AM/KEZJ-FM.  From March 1985 to April 2000, he was the KCIR-FM Programming Coordinator.  In October 2000, Jay worked as a Part-Time Switcher at KDID-TV/KTWT-TV in Twin Falls.

Jay is a Magic Valley native who grew up on a farm near Jerome, Idaho.  He graduated from Jerome High School in 1980, and from Ron Bailie School of Broadcast in Spokane, Washington in 1981.  Jay also has a Business Administration: Management degree from the College of Southern Idaho in Twin Falls.

"Since I'm a former farm boy, I cover lots of agriculture and resource-related stories.  But I've also lived in town for as long as I was on the farm, so I find it relatively easy to see at least two sides to any issue," Jay says.  "I also make it a point to accurately represent the viewpoints of the people I interview, regardless of what I might personally feel about any given matter.  I work hard to treat everybody fairly when it comes to covering the stories that affect all of us, because I live here in Magic Valley, too."

Jay's interests include playing and composing music, reading, writing, science fiction, model rocketry, and scriptwriting.  He lives with his wife and two daughters in Twin Falls.
