Job Title:  Studio Operator                                                                          

Department: Operations

Reports To: Operations Manager


Mission Statement

Operate the studio cameras and the audio board.  Load the graphics into computer for broadcasts.


Essential Duties/Measurements

Ø  Separates, copies, distributes news scripts to appropriate areas

Ø  Prepares scripts for teleprompter

Ø  Creates shot sheets for camera operation

Ø  Prepares studio including checking lights & replacing bulbs when needed, checking microphones, placing microphones in appropriate location, constructing the set and tidying area before and after shoot

Ø  Operates audio board during news broadcast & during pre-recording under direction of director

Ø  Marks scripts for guidance, connects telephone for on-air use

Ø  Reports technical or equipment malfunctions to engineering

Ø  Inputs graphics into computer

Ø  Load sequence and checks quality of graphics

Ø  Changes graphics during broadcast

Ø  Inputs late information during commercial breaks

Ø  Telephones stock broker for daily market report


Additional Duties

Ø  Distributes paper inventory to various departments

Ø  Represents studio at community activities on a volunteer basis (i.e. Twin Falls County Fair, Agri-Action, etc.)

Ø  Performs other related duties as required


Qualifications Essential

Ø  Minimum of 16 years of age

Ø  Good verbal communication

Ø  Working computer knowledge

Ø  Accurate typing skills

Ø  Good spelling and grammar skills

Ø  Ability to work under pressure

Ø  Sitting and standing for long periods, lifting of office supplies (e.g. videos, etc.), talking and hearing (in person and by phone)

Ø  Differentiation of color, ability to analyze quality of video and audio

Ø  Manual dexterity to perform office/technical functions (e.g. operating office machines, etc.)

Ø  Ability to push and pull (20-30 lbs. pressure)

Ø  Ability to perform essential duties efficiently and accurately, with or without reasonable accommodation and without injury to incumbent to others



Ø  Television broadcast experience desired

Ø  Photography knowledge helpful



Ø  Punctuality and attendance

Ø  Delivery of news related materials in timely fashion – ½ hour prior to air time

Ø  Meets 5 min cue requirements
