Kids from age 5 to 14 are encouraged to attend the CSI Dental Hygiene program sealant clinic from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Feb. 22 at CSI’s Health Science building on North College Road.Return to event list.
The event has been organized by Alyssa Slade, a senior in the Dental Hygiene program. “Tooth decay is the single most common chronic childhood disease,” said Slade. “Eighty percent of all decay in young permanent teeth occurs in the chewing surfaces of molars. These surfaces have deep pits and grooves in which cavity-causing bacteria are hard to clean with a toothbrush.”
Sealants are plastic coatings that are painted onto the teeth to seal the pits and grooves to help prevent decay of molar teeth. Applications will be done under the supervision of working dental hygienists and dentists from the community. The cost will be $5 - $20, depending on the number of sealants the child needs.
Please arrange for an appointment by calling Andie Dayley in the Dental Hygiene lab at 732-6751.
