Event Description

The College of Southern Idaho’s Highland Culture Club will host its fifth annual Highland Games and Diversity Faire from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 3 on the field behind the CSI Dorms.

The all-day event will feature the best-known Scottish athletic events as well as more than a dozen performers, food and information vendors. The athletic competitions - stone throw, hammer, sheaf, and caber toss - are open to all men and women age 16 and older regardless of experience. Anyone under 18 must have a parent or guarding willing to sign a liability waiver.

Registration begins at 8 a.m. The cost to participate is $25 per competitor. Online pre-registration is at http://toddandlyman.com/eisa/ and then go to the link for the Twin Falls Games. Everyone who signs up online will receive an event shirt. Competition begins at 9:15 a.m.

Musicians and dancers will perform throughout the day, including Irish Dance Idaho from Boise, the Teton & District Performing Arts Pipe Band, and The Barking Owls. Performances will be at various times between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Several booths will feature snacks and information. The CSI Renewable Energy Club will have its mobile trailer on site to showcase its programs. The Highland Culture Club will also raffle several prizes that will help fund the event next year.

Admission is free to everyone. The games, performers, and booths will be located in the large field just east of the CSI Dorms. The Celtic Dash will start on the South Side of the Shields building.

Visitors are encouraged to try the Excalibur Sword Pull, a feat of strength open to the public and all competitors. Prizes will be awarded to the man and woman who can pull the sword from the stone. A new event this year will be the Cheesy Sock Contest. Wear your wackiest pair of socks to the games for a chance to win a prize.

The CSI Student Senate will hold a 5K Fun Run/Walk called the ‘Celtic Dash’ that morning to help raise money for its annual Operation Change, which helps an area family with large medical bills.

Registration the day of the race runs from 8 to 8:45 a.m. and the entry fee is $18. The first 25 students to pre-register at CSI Student Activities pay half price. The event begins at 9 a.m. First place men and women in each age group will win prizes and all participants will receive event items. Light refreshments will be available. All proceeds will go to the family.
