Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony at Sun Valley Resort set for Saturday

SUN VALLEY, Idaho (News Release) – The holiday season is officially underway at Sun Valley Resort . The annual Tree Lighting Ceremony in the Sun Valley Village is happening this Saturday, Dec. 17, starting at 5:30 p.m. Santa will be making an appearance, the Sun Valley Carolers will be singing, and there will be an ice carving demonstration. Free hot cocoa and cookies will also be served. The “Wrap ‘N Run” free gift wrapping will be from 2:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Sun Valley Signatures and Gifts.

The Winter Wonderland Scavenger Hunt, happening at the Sun Valley Village retail locations, also kicked off on Saturday, December 10 and will run through January 1. Participants will be looking for “Clark – The Christmas Mouse” doing an activity at each location, then match them with the store. Once the scavenger hunt card has been completed, it may be exchanged at the Sun Valley Recreation Office for a prize. There is no charge to participate.

Other holiday events this week include the popular Holiday Storytelling for the Kids on Thursday, December 15 from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the Sun Valley Lodge Sunroom. Presented by The Community Library, children of all ages can enjoy readings of old favorites and new classic holiday stories. The event is free to the public, and includes a goodie treat bag when they leave.

Later that evening, pull out the vintage holiday sweaters! The second annual Vintage Holiday Sweater Contest and Party is happening from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Duchin Lounge. Contestants will be judged on uniqueness and story behind the sweater. Prizes will be awarded to first, second and third place. There is no charge to enter.

For those looking for that rare bottle of wine, the Sun Valley wine cellar is back with the Wine Sale in the Ram Room at the Sun Valley Inn from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 17. Over 500 wines will be available for purchase. The event is open to the public for those who are at least 21 years old.

Later that afternoon, before the tree lighting ceremony, guests can enjoy a screening of ELF at 3:00 p.m. in the Sun Valley Opera House. Admission is $5.50 per person. Children under three years old are free.

The festive activities continue on Sunday, December 18 with High Tea in the Lodge Terrace Room from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Reservations are required and may be made with Sun Valley Concierge at 208.622.2097. The iconic Sun Valley Serenade will be having a free showing at the Sun Valley Opera House at 3:00 p.m.

The Winter Wonderland: Home for the Holidays celebration runs through January 2, 2016. In addition to the holiday festivities, Sun Valley will be celebrating its 80th birthday on December 21, 2016.
