Attic fire burns Jerome home

JEROME, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — UPDATE:
A family of two is displaced after the attic in their home caught fire.

Jerome Fire Department Fire Chief Tom Hughes says the fire started near a crack in the chimney pipe.

The incident brought significant damage to the attic and the roof.

No one was home at the time. The American Red Cross also responded to help the family.

Original story: Fire crews responded to a house fire on the 500 block of 16th Avenue East in Jerome Friday evening.

The fire was contained in the attic, with quite a bit of smoke coming from the roof. The 911 call came in a little after 4 p.m. The house contained a wood stove. The Jerome Fire Department is investigating the cause of the fire.
