City of Twin Falls hosts first 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony

TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) When Chris Hawley moved to Southern Idaho from Wisconsin in April of 2016, come that 9/11, she was shocked to find out the city of Twin Falls did not have a memorial ceremony.

She then took it upon herself to plan this year’s remembrance ceremony hosted in the Twin Falls City Park.

The crowd was a mixture between first responders of police, fire and paramedics, to military personnel and members of the community.

"This subject, this day is very personal to me. And I think every year I attend a ceremony. We must, we have to pay honor and tribute to those victims and first responders,” Chris Hawley said.

The memorial, though emotional, is not to focus on the sadness and loss this day brings but the courage that so many brought in light of the situation.

Hawley plans to keep this as a yearly tradition.
