Eating fermented food could improve gut health

JEROME, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) Doctors are urging you to eat more fermented food, it could improve your health.

There are around 40 trillion bacteria in your body, most of which are in your intestines.

They are known as your gut microbiota, and they are hugely important for your health.

However, certain types of bacteria in your intestines can also contribute to many diseases.

The food that you eat greatly affects the types of bacteria that live inside you.

“More people need to be growing gardens, going to the farmers market during the summer, canning foods,” said Dr. Joshua Kern. “Some of the stuff we all use to do and I think a lot of people don't have the time or energy to do that. But if I could get people to do it and it would be good for them and help support their gut health.”

Try things like sauerkraut or yogurt which contain a type of bacteria that can benefit your gut health.

Consider high fiber foods like beans or whole grains.
