First flu death reported in south central Idaho

TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — The first flu-related death this season has been reported by the South Central Public Health District.

The death was reported last week and the person was over the age of 50.

According to the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare there have been seven deaths reported statewide.

South Central Public Health District is reminding residents to get immunized, saying those over 65 should receive the high dose vaccine.

You should also wash your hands often and if you cough or sneeze, cover your face.

They also recommend staying home if you are ill and keeping children who are sick home.

Symptoms of the flu include:
• Sudden fever or feeling feverish/chills
• Cough and/or sore throat
• Runny or stuffy nose
• Muscle or body aches
• Headaches and fatigue (tiredness)
