JEROME, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) UPDATED 02/07:
The Jerome County Sheriff's Office continues to investigate a homicide that was reported in Jerome at 4:45 a.m. Monday.
Deputies were dispatched to the area of 200 East and 400 North for a report of a body lying in the middle of the road. They identified the body of a 21-year-old Jerome resident Jesus Alejandro Perez-Cervantes.
Authorities say "there were obvious signs of foul play."
Desiree Bailey, a Jerome County resident who lives a few miles away from the found body, said she just thought it was an accident.
"I woke up and my bedroom's on the north side of the house, and there was lights everywhere in my bedroom... They actually had the school bus turned around and go back around the other way around the mile to pick up the kids," Bailey said.
She said she woke up around 6 a.m. and there were still emergency lights flashing.
"It was crazy, I literally would have thought it was an accident," Bailey said.
Although the incident was close to her home, she said she still feels safe.
"I don't think that my kids are in any danger," she said.
The sheriff's office sent out a press release Tuesday night about the incident and believes this is an isolated incident. Sgt. Chad Kingsland with the sheriff's office said they believe there is no threat to the community.
Karistel Vanzante also lives a few miles from the scene and she said she found out from a neighbor the deputies talked to.
"We didn't know what it was. I woke up at 4:30 in the morning and at about a quarter to 5, I came outside and there were cop cars coming up the 400 and then I saw two more emergency vehicles," Vanzante said. "I just wish they would have just let us know earlier that there was nothing to worry about."
Deputies talked to residents that could have seen or heard what was going on, along with residents who were closer to the scene.
"It's pretty crazy, you know. I am saddened," Vanzante said. "The kid was only 21-years-old and I have a kid who will be 21 in two weeks. It's sad to have a life taken."
Both neighbors KMVT spoke to speculated that the victim was shot, but authorities cannot confirm or deny as the investigation is still ongoing.
