Local Dish retailer warns of phone scam

TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) Local Dish retailer Big Dog TV & Internet is warning people not to fall for a new phishing scam.

Employees say people are being called by a number that appears to be Dish Network but is not.

The caller says the customer can upgrade equipment or even replace existing equipment for a fee. Big Dog store manager Nick Mattison says that's not Dish's policy.

"They have no reason to be reaching out to their customer base, it's a service that people will have to reach out to them for, especially for these types of upgrades," said Mattison.

If you are contacted, the caller may tell you your service will be cut off if you don't take any action and may ask for your credit card and social security numbers – something you should never do over the phone.

Mattison says if you have any questions or concerns, you can reach out on Facebook, their website, or at (208) 734-6888.
