TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) - Rock Creek Elementary teaches their students about safety around strangers and people they may know.
In these lessons, students read a story with the counselor and talk about safety tips and what to keep in mind when they could be in danger.
These tips include having a call list and calling their parents even if an adult they know would be picking them up or to never go somewhere alone.
Sarah Pehrson, counselor at Rock Creek Elementary, says, "Different ways that students can utilize safety tips to stay safe in dangerous situations, such as being smart, listening to their instincts or their 'uh-oh' voice as we call it."
Student Claire Ficklin says her parents teach her a lot at home and she has learned about safety every year.
"I think it's good to be safe because you don't know what's out there and people can hurt you," says Ficklin.
The sessions will continue for the week of Oct. 2 and students will have a handout to take home to parents about what they learned.
