All Aboard! Model trains chug along through fair week

FILER, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) For almost three decades, model railroads have been an attraction at the Twin Falls County Fair.

The Magic Valley Model Railroaders started with a corner of one of the buildings, now they have a full building and a track outside. The track outside was unveiled last year. The club's President, Doug Christensen, donated it because he wanted to share it with as many people as possible.

"That was my reason for donating it, so that others can enjoy it," Christensen said.

The trains are especially popular with kids. But people of all ages will stare at the detailed train setups.

"It's sort of like being a professional sports player or something like that is when we get to see the people cheer for us, this is when we get to see people really appreciate what we did," said Forrest Lamp, a member of the club.

Most of the railroaders the Magic Valley Railroaders, they are living out childhood hobbies.

"I got involved with model trains when I was about 5 years old and I haven't quit since," said Karlton Crobin, a member of the group and former president.

The group is starting a youth model train club as well. Anyone interested in the trains is welcome at their weekly meetings Saturdays from 11 a.m. from 3 p.m. They don't meet the Saturday after the fair so they can recover.
