TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — The Twin Falls City council has approved a new fire chief.

City Manager Travis Rothweiler recommended Les Kenworthy as the new fire chief for Twin Falls City.

He was approved Monday by the council by a vote of 7 to 0.

Kenworthy most recently served as deputy chief of the Mercer Island Fire Department in Mercer Island, Washington.

He was recommended by a team comprised of fire department staff, city staff, and members of City Council who received 32 applicants from 17 states.

Kenworthy said his number one priority moving forward is the people of Twin Falls.

"I look forward to meeting not only the Twin Falls community but outside community as well," Kenworthy said. "So give me a little time, but then be in contact, I'd like to get to know you."

Kenworthy will take over the command of the fire department starting mid March.

He will fill the vacancy left when former chief Tim Soule resigned in October.

He said he will use the next month to get his footing and prepare to serve the community of Twin Falls.
