UPDATE: One dead in crash on U.S. 93 in Jerome County

JEROME, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — UPDATE 12/14:

Idaho State Police have released the names of the people involved in Wednesday's fatal head-on crash in Jerome County.

Cheryl Miller died at the scene of the crash. She was in a sedan heading north when police say a truck heading south crossed the center lane and collided with her. She is 71 and from Dietrich.

Larry Halbert was driving the truck. He was taken to St. Luke's Magic Valley for his injuries. Halbert is listed in critical condition as of Thursday afternoon. He is 39 and from Caldwell.

ISP is still investigating the crash. They do believe alcohol was involved.

The Jerome County Sheriff's office and the Idaho Transportation Office helped ISP handle the crash. Jerome Firefighters had to cut both people out of their vehicles. The road was blocked for about four hours.

UPDATE 9:30 p.m.:

One person is dead and another is in the hospital after a head-on collision Wednesday on U.S. 93 in Jerome County, several miles south of Shoshone.

Authorities have not released the names of the two people involved. Nor have they released the condition of the person who was taken to the hospital in Twin Falls.

Idaho State Police say that one vehicle was heading north and the other south just before 7 p.m. Police say the southbound vehicle crossed the center line causing the collision.

ISP is investigating the incident as an alcohol-involved collision. A sergeant on scene said they found open bottles in one of the vehicles and smelled alcohol.

Though it is to soon to say for sure what, if any, role alcohol played, ISP urged people to be cautious around the holidays.

ISP also urged people to be cautious in the fog. If another car had been following too closely they could have been involved.

Two dogs died in the crash as well. Both lanes of travel on U.S. 93 were blocked for hours.

The driver of the other vehicle was transported to Twin Falls.

Traffic is blocked in both directions at starting at mile post 63 and officials say it will likely be closed for at least an hour.

The driver of one vehicle was confirmed dead at the scene by the Jerome County Fire Department.
