SHOSHONE, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) The city of Shoshone welcomes a new police chief to their roster.

Cliff Katona took over duties last month but was officially sworn in at Tuesday night's city council meeting.

He brings to the job his experience as a former Idaho State Police detective and says he's looking forward to submersing himself in Shoshone’s community.

Since taking over, Katona has hired on five additional reserve officers, doubling the size of the department.

“I want everyone in Shoshone and Lincoln County to know that they are welcome to approach me at any time," said Katona. "My door is always open. I can't fix a problem if I don't know there's a problem.”

Already Katona has worked with officers to add new patches to their uniforms.

Something they all seemed to like better.

He's also looking forward to hosting events partnering police with teens and making sure they have a good relationship.
