SUN VALLEY, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) - Founded in 1985, the Sun Valley Summer Symphony is the largest privately funded free admission orchestra in the United States.
The symphony is announcing its upcoming concerts for the summer.
“We open with the In Focus Series which is a smaller instrumentation orchestra," said Jenny Krueger, executive director of the Sun Valley Summer Symphony." This year’s theme is Russian music. We really take time to discuss the music and talk about the music which really brings the music in focus. We then open our big season with a celebration really, celebrating the anniversary of the opening of the pavilion, it’s been 10 years. So we’ll be bringing back some of the music that we opened the pavilion with as well as bringing in super star pianist Lang Lang. He’s world renowned and he’s very flashy and exciting and so it will be just a great way to celebrate our pavilion."
Even though the Sun Valley Summer Symphony is highlighted during the summer months, it is a year round affair.
“I think there is a big misconception that because it is a summer festival we’re really only working in the spring, but we really started working on this season even before the close of last year. So it’s full time from the end of the season before to opening night,” Krueger said.
