TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) - Christmas in the Nighttime Sky was quite the success Friday night, but the work has just begun.
All the toys collected at the event were loaded into a trailer, and volunteers helped unload them Saturday morning.
Coordinator Debbie Johnson along with a few volunteers spent hours marking through the barcodes and arranging more than 2,300 toys and at least 23 bicycles that were donated at the event.
Johnson told us she felt like a toy hoarder after going through thousands of toys, but that won't last since she starts distributing to service providers Sunday.
"It's surprising how we can get rid of toys, and when we start distributing toys within a three-day period, this room will go back to being empty," she said. "And it's 5,000 toys, 7,000 kids in less than three weeks... all before Christmas... all in time for Christmas."
The Twin Falls Toys for Tots serves all eight counties in South Central Idaho from Bliss to Mini-Cassia and Sun Valley to Jackpot.
If you wish to receive toys from the program for your kids this Christmas, most providers are still accepting applications. Be sure to get them in soon, because it'll close within the next week.
