U.S. Forest Service to increase prices on forest maps

(KMVT/KSVT) - U.S. Forest Service map prices are on the rise.

Starting Jan. 1, Forest Service maps will cost you $14.

This is the first time they've increased the prices in nearly a decade.

Currently at $10 a piece, the price increase is meant to offset the rising costs of production, printing and distribution.

"One of the other ways that you can get forest maps is to go on our forest website," said Julie Thomas of the Sawtooth National Forest. "They're a little cheaper by going online and printing them off for yourself so that's an alternative that you can use."

Travel plan maps, which show the roads and trails available for public access, will remain free to the public.
