BUHL, Idaho ( KMVT / KSVT ) Buhl High School is very grateful for this weather. That's because Friday kicks off the 44th Annual Buhl Invitational, a wrestling tournament featuring 32 teams.
If you remember last year we had more than a foot of snow at this time and some teams couldn't make the trip. But now, the snow won't be a factor.
Many athletes who compete at this event end up winning state and last year one of the weight classes produced 10 eventual state placers. You can't beat the competition.
Buhl High School athletic director Stacy Wilson said, "I always told my kids when I was coaching wrestling that if you place at the Buhl Invitational, you have a good chance at placing at the top three or four at state. It's that quality of competition because we have the 2A, the North Fremont's, the Challis', the Ririe's the 2A powerhouses, along with the Minico's and Mountain Home of the 4A and you mix in the Sugar-Salem in the 3A's."
If you place at our tournament, you place at the state tournament, it's that quality of wrestling.
The action begins Friday at 3 pm and then kicks up again at 10 am on Saturday with finals at 2 pm.
Teams are coming from across southern Idaho and northern Nevada.
