Carpenter drops 25 points, but Minico falls in the Magic Valley Holiday Classic

JEROME, Idaho ( KMVT / KSVT ) Minico took on Centennial Thursday afternoon in the championship of the Magic Valley Holiday Classic, presented by Jerome and Minico High Schools.

The Spartans defeated Caldwell and Elko, while centennial got past Shelley and Idaho Falls.

Second quarter, Patriots up nine over the Spartans and add to that lead, on this three from Kolby Modrow from the corner. The big man with some finesse. Centennial leads 31–19.

Spartans answer right back as Kasen Carpenter drains it from deep. Carpenter with a game–high 25 points.

Then the Spartans go to the charity stripe to cut into the gap. Regan Povlsen makes this both and Minico finds itself down 11 with less than two minutes to go. He had 11.

Then the Patriots controlled the rebounds and clock the rest of the half.
The Boise–based team led 36–25 at the half.

Minico made it close, but Centennial wins the tournament, 72–66.

Now let's talk about those Minico sophomores. It's not often that kids of this age get much playing time on varsity. That's not the case for Minico.

Kasen Carpenter as we mentioned earlier led all scorers with 25 points, he also knocked down seven three pointers. The record for three's is eight set by Ryan Hepworth, a record that has stayed in place since 2001-02.

Kasen is a sophomore, so are Rylan Chandler, Brant Etherington and Tyler Munsee, all three are featured in this video.

Shelley 67, Kimberly 47: The Russets win the consolation trophy with the rout of Kimberly.

Jerome 50, Mountain Home 44: Kole Baker led the Tigers with 14 points.
