Darrall Imhoff passes away; Twin Falls coach remembers her dad

TWIN FALLS, Idaho ( AP / KMVT ) We've talked a lot about the Jones family lately because of Damon's movement through the MLB following the Draft. But tragedy hit the family this weekend when Darrall Imhoff, Damon's grandfather passed away suddenly from a heart attack in Bend, Oregon.

Darrall is the father of Twin Falls head girls basketball coach, Nancy Jones. This is what she had to say:

"Most know my dad based on his accolades on the hardwood, but those closest to him know that his greatest accomplishments had nothing to do with playing the game of basketball; instead they were in the relationships he built by how he loved and treated people. The legacy he left is one of integrity, generosity and a strong faith in god."

The former University of California-Berkeley and U.S. Olympic champion center played 12 seasons in the NBA.

Imhoff led the Pete Newell–coached Golden Bears to the 1959 NCAA title and played alongside Oscar Robertson and Jerry West on the 1960 Olympic team — also coached by Newell.

Imhoff was selected third overall by the new York Knicks in the 1960 NBA Draft behind Robertson and West.

Listed at 6'10", a walk–on at Cal, made a difference during his time there and had his number 40 jersey retired.

He was 78.
