The hornet hive attacks Firth as Declo are state champions

POCATELLO, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) The Declo Hornets entered Saturday's 2A State Championship game undefeated at 12-0 and were looking to make it 13-0. The Firth Cougars entered the game at 8-3 overall.

The Hornets scored early and continued to rack up the scoreboard.

Quarterback Mckay Breshears started it by punching into the end zone on the quarterback keeper giving the 6-0 lead.

Then Breshears handed it off to Nathan Duke who ran it up the middle making the score 12-0 barely seconds into the second quarter.

Keegan Duncan and Garrett Darrington would rush into the end zone, extending the lead at half time is was 27-0 Hornets.

Keegan Duncan would add another rushing long 55 yard run up the sideline extending the lead 33-0.

Remmington Chapman would be the lone scorer for the Cougars in the third quarter.

When it came time for the fourth quarter the Hornets put all of their seniors in for the final 12 minutes of the game on defense, and took out the starting offense.

The Hornets didn't back down on scoring as the final for this game would be 47-6.

Declo was able to make it back to the state championship game and this time they're bringing home the blue trophy.

"I feel terrific. I'm a very blessed coach to...the opportunity to coach such great kids that our Declo community has. They're a great bunch of coaches that are in it for all the right reasons. I love the kids, love the opportunity to be a high school football coach," Declo Head Coach Kelly Kidd said.

Declo finished their season perfect at 13-0, their first state title since 2013 and their third title in six seasons. The Hornets were also named 2A Academic State Champions.
