DECLO, Idaho ( KMVT / KSVT ) One year ago in March, the Cassia County School Board approved the existence of a Declo baseball team. One year later, the Hornets played their first game at home on March 16.
On Thursday night the committee honored the donors, volunteers and area residents to celebrate the brand new Declo High School baseball and softball complex.
The softball team has been in existence since 2002, but their field just got a makeover.
The press boxes, concession stands and bathrooms are still under construction.
Almost all of the construction has been done by volunteer labor, even students who have zero interest in baseball.
Construction manager Kent Kidd said, "there's not one person, we've been very blessed. This community has stepped up far beyond what we can even imagine. We had a fundraising goal we wanted to go after, we far exceeded that goal, we made this indoor batting facility possible for our kids."
Kimberley Kidd, the open house committee chair added, "I know the tenacity my husband has when he puts his mind towards a project. He will do it towards the best of his ability and we have the best. Being able to practice in the winter, being able to practice when it's windy and rainy, this is a great facility."
