GOODING, Idaho ( KMVT / KSVT) A lot of basketball players don't put too much emphasis on free throws. They're not the most exciting shot and if you sink the bucket, it only counts for one point. But one Gooding boy takes his free throws seriously and it's earned him a trip to Chicago.
Cooper Pavkov won the Elks Hoop Shoot Northwest Regional Championship in Portland on Saturday.
Representing 12 to 13 year old boys, he drained 24 of 25 attempts, the best score of the day.
72 total finalists from 12 regions around the country will converge in Chicago on April 22nd for the national championship.
Pavkov added, "I've shot free throws my whole life. It's part of basketball, you shouldn't miss them. They're free.
Pavkov had to win the school, local, district and state competition in order to advance to regionals.
In two of those contests, he only made 18, which he has no idea how he won.
