HAZELTON, Idaho ( KMVT / KSVT ) The College of Idaho currently boasts six athletes with Magic Valley ties and now the track team will add two more.
Brinley Reed and Haylie Grant of Valley High School signed with the university Monday morning.
Head coach Austin Basterrechea came down from Caldwell to celebrate with the girls. After all, he originates from Gooding.
With 63 on the Yotes roster, the number marks the biggest team in school history and 50 should return next year.
Reed will compete in the triple and long jump and potentially the decathlon, while Grant wants to do sprints and long jump.
Grant explained, "it's nice that we all come from the same area, coming form a 1A to another small school."
"Being seniors it's scary, some of my friends are going to play volleyball, me and Haylie are choosing track, " Reed said.
Basterrechea added, "we know the Magic Valley has great kids, but when you got kids doing three sports and they can come in and start doing track and field, you see a lot of upside from the kids."
Also signing with the College of Idaho Track program, Kiersten Lancaster of Declo High School.
