In Magic Valley court news, a Bliss High School social studies teacher has pled guilty to one count of sexual battery of a 16 year old minor child.

Police say that 39 year old Anna Margaret Bettencourt of Wendell had sex with a 16 year old male student twice during August and September of last year. Bettencourt was been suspended with pay.

The prosecution offered to drop one of the two felony charges in exchange for asking for a total of ten years in prison, with three of those years fixed if Bettencourt plead guilty. She will be sentenced at 9 am on Tuesday August 25th.

Meanwhile a man charged with the battery of a police officer last winter was sentenced in Gooding County.

49 year old Ricky Jimenez was charged with aggravated battery and resisting arrest, after a Wendell officer pulled over a vehicle Jimenez was in during a traffic stop last December.

As a result of a plea bargain, the original charge of felony battery of a police officer was reduced to misdemeanor assault. Magistrate Judge Casey Robinson sentenced Jimenez to twelve months probation with the first month supervised.

The proposed restitution totals more than 28 thousand dollars and a hearing on that matter will be held at 1:30 pm on Monday, August 24th.
