Kasey Teske is in his second year as Robert Stuart Middle School Principal.

He came from Oregon Trail Elementary and hoped to transfer some of the things he learned there to the middle school level.

"The turnaround was fast. In one year we were able to do amazing things with our academic progress."

This includes new school status.

"It has to do with No Child Left Behind and making progress in reading and math."

In math, they're around 90% proficient as a school and for reading it's even higher.

"All students are doing well."

The bad part about achieveing this new status is they lose funding.

"When you get school improvements, they give you money for tutoring. Now when you make new school status, you don't get that money, it's called supplemental education funds."

The school's enrollment has increased in the past year to 760 students.

"Our classes are a little more full because of how funding came down from the state. It's a good thing - that's how we get our funding."
