This past week was a week of firsts for me as a CrossFitter.

The first of my two firsts is that I suffered my first CrossFit "injury."

If you read my last blog post you may remember me mentioning that crossfitters like to brag a little about the bumps and bruises they get while working out. In fact, after one of my first workouts a guy showed me a bloddy blister in the palm of his hand. I remember thinking, "how can anyone workout with a bloody palm?" My next thought was, "I'm not going to high five this dude today." Above all I guess I just didn't get it. I mean, why would anyone want to bleed after a workout?

Anyways, after a WOD (workout of the day) that included kettle bell swings I felt my pinky finger pulsating. When I looked down I saw this bad boy:

Now I get the whole idea of being proud of these little blisters. It shows that you put in hard work at the gym. It goes along with the whole "No pain no gain" mantra.

By the way, there is a big controversy over the fact that CrossFit is dangerous and leads to a lot of injuries. I just want to say that I've been doing it for a three months now and this minor blister is the worst thing that has happened to me so far. Luckily I belong to a gym in which the trainers put a big focus on form and safety over everything else. The trainers are also good at scaling WOD weight to each persons individual ability.

My second first is that I did my first CrossFit Games WOD.

The CrossFit Games are a series of five workouts over the course of five weeks that anybody across the world can participate in. Each person has four days to complete the posted workout and all of the results are posted online afterwards. After five weeks the top performers are selected to go on to compete in the regionals and eventually the finals.

Am I going to move on to the regionals? Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeck no! But it's fun to see how your results compare to other people all over the world. It's also fun because there are a bunch of people in the gym cheering you on while you're doing the posted workout.

Here's a picture of me competing last Saturday.

How did I do? I did 201 reps of the posted workout which places me at exactly 42,912th in the world. Looks like I'll need to get a few more blisters before my ranking doesn't have a comma in it!

The camera adds ten pounds and so did the holiday season. This is how I got back into shape. Read more »
