Gooding, Idaho (KMVT-TV) North Valley Academy in Gooding is proud of its orchestra program. Many of the students say it's an opportunity they may never see in other schools.
"Most kids practice between one hour to an hour and a half a night."
Sophomore Max Peterson joined the North Valley Academy strings four years ago.
Peterson says, "not many schools have wood instruments, most of them are brass, flute, drums and sort of things."
Peterson is one of the 'Dewey D Strings'. Dewey refers to Mrs. Dewey, their teacher.
The group consisting of about seven or so students, performed at the 'Magic Valley's Got Talent Competition'.
"We made it to the top ten, we didn't get one of the prizes," says Eighth Grader Shawn Spellman.
As for Spellman, he's grateful there's an orchestra program at North Valley.
Without it, he says he wouldn't be the same student.
Spellman adds, "it just needs to be here. I think kids need it."
