Fit And Well Idaho: Keeping The Weight Off

By Brittany Cooper

Twin Falls, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) The Magic Valley Weight Loss Challenge recently wrapped up, but organizers are still checking in with participants. Former challenge winner Bear Bangs started an Accountability Conference Call as a way to check in participants.

Bear Bangs lost 112 pounds in the 2011 Magic Valley Weight Loss Challenge. He won $6,000 or losing 48% of his body weight.

Two years later, he has still maintained a healthy lifestyle, but the same can't be said for some of the other competitors.

As Bangs explains, "people just kind of lose sight of their goals so we came up with the accountability program as a way to keep those goals in sight."

The 2013 batch of participants finished with better results than in years past. Weight loss coordinator Jenny Hefner hopes the accountability program will help participants stick to their weight loss goals.

Hefner adds, "our goal of doing this is not to see what people can do for six months and then go back to their old ways, we want to see them maintain this healthy lifestyle, maybe not doing so as restrictive as they we're during the competition, but maintaining over the next months, years."

Throughout the course of the call, you'll find former participants sharing success stories as well the current challenges they face.

"Some of the challenges they're continuing to have or challenges that are springing up and really to have support for one another," says Bangs.

Making accountability a priority for a healthier life.

Participants need to call in at nine p.m. on Mondays. Please call (661) 673-8600 and then the pin number is 1064066#.

This is a long distance call and that is the only cost you will face.
