Fit And Well Idaho: Finding Joy In The Holidays
Twin Falls, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) The holiday season is well underway and with the occasion comes some stress and anxiety.
It's the most wonderful time of year, but not everybody feels that way, we explore ways to find joy this holiday season.
Lead Therapist Jeremy Royal, Canyon View explains, "people aren't as interested in presents are they are in just seeing you, connecting with you as a person. So we build up our expectations of giving, it's important that we try to shift to how can I connect with people, be happy with people and separate the presents from all of it."
You may feel a little stressed about not being able to make those expensive purchases as you have in the past.
"There's a challenge that's out there that presents are what drives Christmas. We put that upon ourselves I don't find good enough if i can't give a present to someone. We assume there's a need from everyone around us to get something from us. So giving becomes stressful, instead of positive," adds Royal.
Another stressor that comes along with the holidays, is dealing with a challenging family member.
"First thing we probably want to do is limit that time with them if we can't find some common ground. So if you have a challenging family member, you're not going to purposely spend a lot time around them."
Royal adds other ways to improve your mood; eat healthy, exercise and get plenty of rest.
