Burley, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) How do I know if joint replacement surgery is right for me?

This is a question that hundreds of thousands of Americans ask themselves.

Dr. Bryce Millar is an orthopedic surgeon at Cassia Regional Medical Center.

"We do really a general orthopedic practice, which includes fractures, foot and ankle problems, hand problems, we don't incorporate spine into practice, but we do joint replacements, shoulder, hip and knee,” Millar said.

Earlier this year, Cassia initiated a total joint surgery class, as part of a larger program to improve the level of care.

Their mission? To utilize the latest techniques, comparable to other areas of the country.

"We really feel we have the best technology in terms of the implants we use, the anesthesia we use, the level of care while they're here, the therapy they get... One of things we do is we teach a class for anyone who is scheduled to have surgery or thinking about having surgery; they're always welcome to come," Millar said.

Physician assistant Mitch Robinson teaches these classes.

"Patients really appreciate getting as much information as they can, so they know what to expect after surgery, during surgery and before surgery... I get to know what patients worry about, what's on their mind... this class really opens it to me and showing me what their concerns are and how I can better help them,” Robinson said.

Improving the quality of care for a better outcome.

The free classes are offered twice a month at Cassia Regional Medical Center.
