Twin Falls, Idaho (KMVT-TV) School is out but that doesn't mean the classrooms are closed.

Summer school in Twin Falls is underway.

More than 300 selected students from all seven elementary schools in Twin Falls are taking summer classes at Harrison Elementary.

"The students for summer school were referred by their classroom teacher. They used data from the year as well as state, final, spring test scores” said Melissa Ardito, Principal Harrison Elementary.

Harrison has 18 teachers in the classrooms working six hour days with students.

"You would be surprised of what they're learning it's a small three and half weeks, but their learning a lot. The teachers are working really hard and the kids are working hard” said Melissa Ardito, Principal Harrison Elementary.

Going to school in the summer can be hard for kids. But teachers know how to keep a positive vibe.

"Friday fun activities, longer recess on Friday, popsicles if they have been here all week. They have P.E. and he has great activities there, the teachers have prizes and we have attendance prices too” said Melissa Ardito, Principal Harrison Elementary.

Attending summer school for three weeks and learning something new is what students across the magic valley are doing.
