Rabbits at the Fair

When it comes to raising farm animals - we've all seen cattle and pigs sold at the annual fat stock sale.
But for those of us who prefer something smaller and more cuddly - you might consider something wearing bunny ears.

6th grader Kade Sirucek said, “The judge wants to make sure that you're confident with yourself, and stuff like that. And always make sure that you're making eye contact with it. And make sure that you know what you're doing, and you're not just guessing your way through.”

Sirucek says these rabbit raisers have to tell the judges about their bunnies - including their name and gender.

And that's well toward the end of the project - after the 4-H book and story are completed - as well as months of grooming their rabbits.
Up and coming 'rabbiteers' get a chance to show much more cooperative animals at first.

Learning how to show stuffed rabbits to the judges - helps build confidence for next time - when junior rabbit producers have to do it for real.
