Paul, ID (KMVT TV) - After undergoing chemo, a local girl is going on a much–needed vacation all thanks to the Make–A–Wish Foundation.

On Sunday, a family from Paul will leave on their trip.

An exciting getaway would be a dream for any girl and 10–year–old Mindy Ketterling is no exception.

Mindy and her family are going on a special trip, thanks to the Make–A–Wish Foundation.

"We are going to swim with the dolphins in Florida. I love animals and I want to see them and discover the world,” said Mindy Ketterling, Cancer Survivor.

In just days, Mindy will be doing just that.

As she checks out websites of where she'll be exploring, she recalls the hard times she's endured.

"I did six months of cancer and I beat it,” said Mindy Ketterling.

For her family, it's been a trying experience.

"Very hard and difficult. We found out May 5th when a friend of mine and I took her into the ER because she had pains in her legs. We thought it was growing pains and found out it was cancer,” said Alesha Ketterling, Mindy’s Mom.

After finishing up chemo, Mindy's now in the waiting phase of treatment.

"I do have a spot on my lung and they are going to see if it grows or if it doesn't grow, we're fine and we're not going to do anymore chemo. But, if it does, they're gonna take it out and do more chemo,” said Mindy Ketterling.

Their advice for others.

"Just do the best you can and get through it,” said Ryan Ketterling, Mindy’s Dad.

"You just gotta stay strong and keep your head up,” said Mindy Ketterling.

The Ketterlings will spend a week in the Sunshine State, enjoying palm trees, amusement parks, and of course, each other.
