A late morning fire that sparked in the big little ranches area has torched public lands west of U.S. highway 93 but apparently destroyed no private property.
The fire, which burned eastward - away from some homes - and stopped when the flames flanked U.S. 93, was no longer considered an active burn.
Winds, which in previous fires have allowed fires to leap roads, were fortunately absent this morning.
Idaho State Police were able to direct traffic without shutting down the highway.
