About every three years – a change of command occurs in the military to give honor and recognize an outgoing commander while introducing a new commander.
Today the 116th brigade special troops battalion honored Lieutenant Colonel Tom Rasmussen while bringing from within the organization —– Major Todd Edgar as the incoming commander.
Maj. Todd Edgar "I’m very excited. I’m very proud. It’s a tremendous honor to be able to serve and to care of these soldiers that we have assigned to our organization."
Rasmussen says that he will miss the soldiers but will keep his position of the environmental officer for the Idaho National Guard.
Major Edgar served with him as his executive officer for the last two years.
Lt. Col. Tom Rasmussen says, "Maj. Todd Edgar is a very capable officer. He served with me as my executive officer for the last two and a half years and has just done a stellar job. There is nobody in the Idaho Army National Guard that is more prepared to take this command today."
Rasmussen and Edgar have approximately 56 years of military experience between them.
They represented a battalion that just started two and a half years ago.
Mayor Lance Clow says, "This is the minute men of the 21st century and they are on a moment's notice and can be called up away from their families, homes and jobs on a moment's notice, and they've done it and done it with distinction."
