The rainbow trout is a Buhl icon.
This weekend's festival in the west end celebrates that identity.
Christine Garrison, Buhl Chamber of Commerce says “Since we are the Trout Capital of America. We have the largest commercial trout industry in America.”
Buhl’s reputation for its trout doesn't stay confined to the boundaries of the gem state. Gary Fornshell, U of I says “When I go to a larger city and go to a restaurant, it's fairly common to see Idaho trout on the menu.
Rainbow trout raised in hatcheries in the Buhl area is beginning to appear on restaurant menu's from coast to coast.
Cally Parrott, with Clear Springs Food says “It's very exciting, not just for Clear Springs, but for our community.
–Here in the Magic Valley, there is approximately forty–two million pounds of rainbow trout produced for human consumption. That's about seventy to seventy–five percent of the total domestic market.”
