Sheriff officials are investigating claims by a local couple that their tractor was stolen Friday afternoon.
Yesterday Reid Haines of R&R equipment came to his lot to pick up a back hoe when he noticed that his 2006 red Massey–Ferguson tractor was missing.
He says that his friend stopped by at 3 to take a look at the tractor and it went missing between 3 and 3:45.
Haines says, "I think with the changing economy and everything else going on that this is going to be more and more common. i know a farmer in Jerome the other day caught somebody cutting pipe in his field. The police couldn't do anything about it. We’re going to really have to watch out for our neighbors."
Haines believes it was loaded up and taken eastbound on highway 30 due to the skid marks on the roadway.
Staff Sergeant Perry Barnhill with Twin Falls County says this is uncommon and they have not had a rash of tractors thefts.
He reminds farmers to secure their heavy gauge electrical cords.
