A couple charged in the death of their infant child was sentenced in Twin Falls Monday 5/18.
A year ago in February – two year old Jasmine Gorbenko died after being injured in a house fire at 441 Gardner Avenue in Twin Falls.
Investigators discovered that the fire started from a cigarette on the porch.
Gorbenko's stepfather – 32 year old Stepan Kutran pled guilty to felony involuntary manslaughter – and misdemeanor injury to a child three months ago.
29 year old Inna Gorbenko–Kutran also pled guilty to those same charges two months ago.
Stepan Kutran's defense attorney said while Kutran is 32 years old physically – he's less than 12 years old psychologically.
The couple surrendered parental rights to their two surviving children to a distant relative last week.
Inna Kutran's defense attorney said that Inna is pregnant again.
District judge Randy Stoker sentenced Stepan Kutran to up to five years in prison – with three of those years fixed.
Stoker sentenced Inna Kutran to a maximum of four years in the penitentiary – with two years before she's eligible for parole.
