Idaho Guard Prepare for Deployment
It's official 2,700 members of the Army National Guard's 116th Cavalry Brigade Combat Team, including around 300 citizen soldiers from the Magic Valley will be deployed to Iraq on September 17th.
The mobilization will last approximately one year.
Around 1500 of the 2700 guardsmen are from Idaho – the rest from Montana and Oregon.
The 116th Cavalry Brigade Combat team will be included in the rotation of forces supporting overseas operations in Iraq.
After about two months of training in the US the forces will replace deployed units beginning in about November 2010.
This will be the 2nd deployment of the 116th Combat team to Iraq.
They were first on assignment there from late 2004 to late 2005.
A spokesman estimated for about half of the 300 guardsmen from the Magic Valley – this will be their 2nd tour of duty in Iraq.
