Cowboy Sets out on 7500 mile trek

By B. Cooper

59–year old Phil Dawson prepared his horses in the D & B parking lot in Jerome this afternoon for a 7500 mile trip across the country.
A journey he hopes to make within a year and a half.
"I'll get to Florida, turn around, head back as the weather permits, I'll start up north and I want to go to Seattle, come back and that will be my run."
Dawson says he's taking two pack animals and a horse to make the longest pack run in recorded history.
And he's doing this for children like Bear who's been diagnosed with acute leukemia.
"It will help with finances and medical treatment...We hope to have more pictures, more stories to take with us."
Dawson says that people have let him stay with them at their house, in their yard and gave him money for his efforts.
"I'll ride into town and I might come in with $2 in my pocket."
