63 yr old Kimberly resident dies after deadly collision at Red Cap Corner

RED CAP CORNER, ID (ISP) On Saturday, June 11, 2011, at approximately 2:45 pm, the Idaho State Police investigated a two vehicle fatality crash on US30 at Red Cap Corner near Kimberly, Idaho.

Michael Mitchell, 63 of Kimberly, ID, was traveling southbound on 3500 E in a 1994 Nissan pickup.

Jacob Udy, 28 of Twin Falls, ID, was traveling westbound on US30 in a 2001 Dodge pickup. Rachel Udy, 28 of Hansen, ID, and her two children were also in the vehicle during the time of the crash.

All occupants in the Udy vehicle were wearing their seatbelts; it is unknown at this time if Mitchell was wearing his at the time of the crash. At the intersection there are stop signs on 3500 E.

Mitchell and Udy collided in the intersection of 3500 E and US30. Mitchell and Udy were transported to St Lukes Magic Valley Regional Medical Center in Twin Falls, ID.

Mitchell succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

Weather and alcohol are not thought to be a factor in this crash. The road was closed for approximately 2 hours.

Trooper Pohanka was assisted by Kimberly Police Department and Twin Falls County. He was also assisted by Trooper Kilton, Corporal Bingham, Trooper Barrett and Sergeant Garcia. The crash is still under investigation at this time.
