At the meeting, Shoshone citizens voiced concerns over the fire department's ability to rapidly respond, now that some firefighters have resigned, or are on a leave of absence.

That rapid response was put to the test today, when the department responded to a house fire at 12:35 pm.

Chief of Police Officer Jon Daubner says help was called in from Dietrich’s fire department.

Daubner says the fire started in, or near a closet, and the house has sustained smoke damage.

In a prepared statement by Steve Stock, it says, now only a total of 4 or 5 firefighters are within close proximity to Station #1 in downtown Shoshone.
