BURLEY, ID (KMVT-TV) - The Idaho Lions Sight and Hearing Foundation is a few thousand dollars richer.

The Burley Lions Club, on Friday, donated over $32,000 dollars to the foundation. The check was presented at the club's 73rd annual charter party.

The Lions Club raised this money through their annual triathlon: the Spudman.

Officials with the Idaho Lions Sight and Hearing Foundation say this money will be used for a variety of purposes; one of those is to expand their services, and to give people a second chance at sight.

"We currently run the only eye bank in the state of Idaho. We acquire eyes from people that donate their eyes when they pass away. We process them and transplant them around the world. So, it will expand the eye banking services in Idaho, to help blind people see again. We also have personal assistance programs, where we have poverty-level people acquire eye surgeries and hearing aids. Of course, everyone knows we recycle eye glasses. We do about 60,000 pairs annually. So, it will expand those services as well. And we also have a hearing aid bank in town and we're looking at expanding other services as well to help those less fortunate than us acquire needed eye glasses,” said Executive Director of the foundation Jay Lugo.

"Lions Club International offered a grant to the Idaho Lions Sight and Hearing Foundation, to upgrade a building up in Boise that was donated. They needed about $80,000 for that. It was a matching funds grant and they asked us to come up with $40,000. We challenged other clubs in the area to come up with money and we would match that - and then, we're actually going to top that off tonight, so the they have the full $40,000 to match. So, they get the entire $80,000 that was needed,’ said Cade Richman, president of the Burley Lions Club.

This isn't the first time the Lions Club has made a donation to the Sight and Hearing Foundation. Last year, they gifted them $10,000 dollars in the form of vision equipment.
