Fit and Fall Proof Program gets seniors up and active
TWIN FALLS, ID (KMVT-TV) - Unintentional falls affect about 30% of people age 65 and older each year.
That's why those involved with the South Central Public Health Fit and Fall Proof Program are getting seniors up and active.
The Fit and Fall Proof Program is run by volunteers who serve throughout the Magic Valley. Officials say, the injuries received from a fall can result in death, disability, nursing home admission, and direct medical costs.
They say, now, more than ever, seniors need to get active, and the activities done through this program are low-impact.
"We're not doing any jumping, any jumping jacks, or any weights or anything like that. We do walking, we do balance exercise, and balance on one foot. We do bands, which is the strength training part, you strengthen your muscles with your biceps, your triceps, your legs,” said Health Education Specialist Elvia Caldera.
If you are interested in learning more about when, and where these programs are held - you can call Elvia at 737-5988.
Officials say, they are also looking for volunteers to lead the fitness classes.
