Tall Cop has tips for parents on looking for substance abuse in youth
Last week, an officer came to town to educate the community and law enforcement officials about substance abuse, focusing on the area youth.
Officer Jermaine Galloway, the president/owner of "Tall Cop Says Stop" also has some tips for parents on looking out for their children.
His number one tip: walk through the stores your kids are shopping in.
He said, “Some of those stores, not all of them, but some of them, have drug and alcohol related clothing. Knowledge is power, and you need to know. It's not like you have to follow your kids around or you have to be a detective - just pay attention to what they're doing, what they're wearing, and what they're into. That is such a big key.
They're going to know you're paying attention, they're going to know you care, and you're going to identify if you see a problem."
Galloway also says, as the culture changes, so does the type of music, and terms, and what they mean.
He also says society is changing over time, becoming more focused on social networking. He says, as a parent, you need to understand how to navigate those social networking sites.
